Sometimes it’s inspiring to break your own rules and allow yourself to be free and liberated.
— Ward Roberts

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

The series is created on a feeling that was inspired by a question.

Before and after taking the shots I immersed myself in the space as a way to connect, finding a sense of peace when in a landscape where you lose the horizon line.

Using this rhythmical state to guide the photos through emotions rather than a thought out process.

By doing this the decision was made to break my own rules, and move away from my usual particular and structured way of shooting.

Sometimes it’s inspiring to break your own rules and allow yourself to be free and liberated.

ABOUT WARD ROBERTS

ward Bio pic.jpg

Ward Roberts is an independent conceptual artist who creates exquisitely composed photographs drawing on themes such as the effects of loneliness and isolation in the modern world.

The artist’s perspective is fresh and engaging, the sophisticated aesthetic is often contradicted by subtle unscripted moments. A soft drenched colour palette is a common theme. There is an innate energy at the core of his work, one which is harnessed and marshalled into every detail in the composition.

Roberts’ work is in many ways a rebuttal of the prevailing trend of urban, gritty style contemporary photography. There is a dichotomy at play in his fine art images which simultaneously recall the mastery of medium and calculated patience of remote academic painters, yet his subjects and presentation feel completely new and contemporary.

Ward is currently based in New York.
